There are some injuries that are simply unavoidable such as a direct blow from a rugby tackle. However, there are a number of accidental injuries that could be deemed preventable such as muscle strains and ligament injuries.
The question we might ask, therefore, is 'what can we do to reduce our chances of getting injured?' Well, quite a lot actually and there's some great evidence behind it. Conditioning the body to suit its demands and developing important attributes such as strength, balance and co-ordination (which we like to call neuromuscular training) has become an essential part of professional sport and it's an easy process for us mere mortals to complete.
